Wieden+Kennedy, 2011 'OFF-ON' is an initiative to make people more aware of energy they consume every day and taking pro active steps to reduce the consumption. You turn a light OFF here to turn someone's light elsewhere. The principle is that all money saved in the workspace is given to install solar power panels in countries around the world.

The pilot Wieden+Kennedy consists of a open source energy data platform that monitors energy of the building by collecting real time values using Current Cost. These values are then stored in a platform that feeds a series of physical LED displays and screensavers reactive to the consumption in the building.

The screensavers and displays were designed focusing on behavior change. The energy consumption data drives the mood of a character that represents the building and changes mood as the building is saving more and less energy.

Developed in collaborataion with Sophie Dollar, Sophie Bodoh, Laurence Mence, Paul Skinner, Yuki Yoshida and Daniel Hirschmann. Creative direction: Dan Norris, Ray Shaugnessy. Photos: Robbie Maynard.

Edith-Ruß-Haus, 2009

Watching the Watchers is a workshop practice of using lowcost wireless CCTV receivers and transmitters to capture and transform public video surveillance systems with Signal Hijack and VideoSniffin'.

In June 2009 I was invited by Graham Harwood to do a collaboration in a workshop at the Edith Russ Media Arts Centre investigating creative opportunities of reusing the local wireless CCTV system to broadcast messages.

The idea was to involve the participants into speculative investigation of the local area mainly by targeting wireless CCTV cameras often present in shops, stores and areas of road traffic control. In the workshop session, the participants became signal detectors and detectives to perceive, visualise and question the signals captured with Video Sniffin’ and then became broadcasters using Signal Hijack to interfere and interact with the cameras sending the signals captured.

The project was featured in Newsweek’s ‘The Technologist’ section due to its unique approach to surveillance bringing the creative aspects of DIY culture to life.</description>

Wieden+Kennedy, 2011
1000 Kaiser Chiefs Albums is a visualization tool to celebrate the user created covers for the Kaiser Chiefs album launch.

In the website users could design their artwork for the album using a set of pre-allocated assets. Throughout the album launch thousands of unique covers were created by the fans.

As you roll over the designs of the album covers, they flip over like record sleeves and display the user name of the fan who created it. If you click on the cover, it takes you to the fan page where you can buy that fan’s version of ‘The Future is Medieval’.

The visualisation tool is an open source Google App Engine application programmed using Python. It scrapes the Kaiser Chiefs website and collects a selection of covers created by users and then it loads 1000 random ones every time the user views it.

osso studio, 2005
Cao Guimarães is a brazilian filmmaker and visual artist. Given the ephemeral essence of his pieces, the website was conceived as an abstract map that displays his works as constellations graphed in a dotted-grid. Users can access audiovisual information, as they navigate through the internal pages of the website.

The website was featured in Taschen’s Flashfolios book.

FABRICA, 2010
Type Swarms is an interactive piece about typography, nature and code. It is based on natural phenomena as insect agglomeration and swarming. As the people type words in the keyboard, semi-domesticated particles move in different directions and positions in a constant struggle to form the shapes of the typed letters. The project looks at the expressive qualities of code and at its relation to nature and design.

Developed with openFrameworks.

Wieden+Kennedy, 2011
Project for the launch of the album ‘The Future is Medieval’ by the British rock band Kaiser Chiefs. The project is a unique online platform that introduces an unconventional model of releasing an album. The site allows fans to create their perfect version of the album, design their own artwork and then sell their creations for a £1 commission.

In the website, the user can compile a custom playlist based on his criteria, using a visual tool of plugging in wires into a music-making machine. Fans can then design their artwork with pre-allocated assets based on their track selection and transfer these assets from photos to oil paintings. Fans can download their albums packaged with their bespoke cover, drop it into their iTunes and see their track listing and artwork.

The site also auto-generates a webpage with a user friendly address and creates designed banners and posters using the fan’s artwork allowing them to promote their album on their blogs and in social media to earn commission from peer to peer sales.

Collaboration, 2010
This project was developed in collaboration with the architectural studio Naja &#38; DeOstos commissioned for the exhibition Swarming Futures of Architecture at the Embassy of Brazil, as part of the International Architecture Showcase of London Festival of Architecture 2010.

Yesterday’s Future is a sculptural piece that combines raw elements of technology and architecture. The piece is a tree-like monolithic structure with 8 arm stands holding interactive LCD monitors. The monitors are hand made and fitted with sensors and motors able to detect and react to human presence. Users inside the space are confronted by the massive structure interacting with the screens that demonstrate awareness to its surroundings with the choreography of their antennas. Swarming Futures was shortlisted as one of the top 3 exhibitions in the International Architecture Showcase.

Haque: Design+Research, 2010
Part of the ‘Design of the Year Exhibition’ at the
Design Museum. Pachube’s interactive wall is part of a series of physical and web based applications I created for the data web service Pachube.

The interactive wall was a display of the features of Pachube. It was made by simple interaction models that were mediated by the platform in real time. In the gallery, users could interact with a set of sensors (gas, temperature, light) and trigger events in actuators embedded in the board. At the same time this interactions were overlayed by a mapped projection that displayed the data that is flowing through the platform.

FABRICA, 2009
COLORSLAB is the home for COLORS MAGAZINE. The website is a laboratory of ideas where users can contribute with content to the magazine. Whenever a new issue begins, the theme is displayed online. Through the website, users can suggest and discuss topics, upload stories and photo sessions and participate on the creative and editorial process of the magazine. The best content is selected and then featured in the paper magazine. The end result is a Colors issue made online: brainstormed, suggested and edited by users all over the world.

The model was introduced in its first collaborative issue #76 Teenagers that had most of its stories sourced via users. In its following issues #77 The Sea and #78 Dance and #78 Superheroes the website has been used to collect content.

Through the website users can suggest and discuss topics, upload stories and photo sessions and participate on the creative and editorial process of the magazine. The end result is a Colors issue made online: brainstormed, suggested and edited by users all over the world.

Created at FABRICA in 2009 in collaboration with Erik Ravelo, Barbara Soalheiro, Andy Cameron, Bejnamin Joffe Walt, Pau Casals, Paolo Eramo and the COLORS team.
